Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW16

Crystal Palace vs. Liverpool

H2H: W5 D5 L17

Fab: Palace are winless in their last four and in very poor form. Home comforts won’t be enough to save them because they don’t even win at home. Liverpool have surged past Man City and have the chance to go top of the league for a few hours at least and you bet they will be raring to go. Only one winner here, and not the hosts.

Prediction: 1-3

Bobo: The Eagles could not make home advantage count against the Cherries and I am not sure they can do much against Liverpool either. They have a worrying injury list and Liverpool’s offense is not one to joke around with. I think Liverpool will take this chance to go top considering the matches their opponents have.

Prediction: 0-3

Brighton vs. Burnley

H2H: W2 D5 L3

Fab: Both teams reverted to what you’d call ‘type’ in the midweek fixtures; Brighton winning at home to Brentford and Burnley going down to Wolves. So maybe that trend is set to hold. It’s another away trip for Burnley and they don’t win those. The Seagulls should have enough firepower to go on and collect maximum points.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: The Seagulls need to get some consistency and with that win in midweek, I think they have the opportunity to make it 2 in 2 and worsen Burnley’s woes in the relegation zone. I’ll go with a win for Brighton.

Prediction: 3-1

Manchester United vs. Bournemouth

H2H: W9 D1 L2

Fab: United collected a trio of monthly Premier League awards during the week so is the curse of the awards about to strike? Well, the Cherries should have something to say about that and they are in quite some form having collected 10 points from their last 4 games. United seems to be responding to pressure surrounding the manager and the squad, but should be worry of a Bournemouth side who have found quite some purple patch.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: The Red Devils have done quite well in the Premier League with four wins in their last five. The Cherries have also picked up some crucial points in recent times and are playing confidently and with a certain swagger about them. They have what it takes to cause United some troubles but I think things are starting to click for Ten Hag’s men and United will win this.

Prediction: 2-1

Sheffield United vs. Brentford

H2H:

Fab: Sheffield gave a good account of themselves on Wednesday despite going down to Liverpool eventually and will hope to continue with a favourable result this time. And for some reason, I think they can get the result here. They are due a win especially considering Brentford aren’t the best travelers.

Prediction: 1-0

Bobo: Rooted at the bottom Sheffield against a rather inconsistent Brentford team. If Sheffield turn up then I think they can pick up some points here. I think Brentford will not allow this to happen and will probably get the best of the relegation battlers to pick up some uplifting three points.

Prediction: 1-3

Wolves vs. Nottingham Forest

H2H: W1 D1 L0

Fab: Four losses in a row and an almighty spanking at the hands of Fulham last time out is the storyline around Forest as they make the trip to Molineux. Wolves are playing quite well and should win this one almost comfortably. Can’t see it ending any other way.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: A home game for Wolves against a Forest side that has been looking so poor of late. Forest have lost the last four in a row and I think they will make that five in a row. Wolves will look to get a win that will push them further up in the table.

Prediction: 2-0

Aston Villa vs. Arsenal

H2H: W11 D14 L31

Fab: Win this and Aston Villa are firmly in the title race if ever there were any doubts. Conversely though, win this and Arsenal will feel that the league if their’s to lose considering how dominant the Villans were in midweek when they beat the champions City. Unai Emery will be looking to get one over his former club especially as he failed to do so last season in that famous comeback 4-2 win for Arsenal. This season has seen the Gunners exert more control at the expense of explosiveness and might that just be the key to containing this rampant Villa side? Rampant because they have won their last 14 consecutive home games in the league. The last team to stop them? You guessed it, Arsenal. Normally I’d back Villa winning at home against any other team, but maybe not tonight.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: Villa are third and playing some beautiful football. They dominated City and this was impressive to see. They are a really good unit that is difficult to dismantle. Their last loss at home was 15 games ago against Arsenal. The Gunners have had to grind out results in their last three matches and it may raise questions about the team or it may be praise for the team. This makes this the match of the week. I think Villa have the edge and are expected to beat Arsenal but the Gunners have the talent and grit to get a result here. Records are there to be broken after all.

Prediction: 2-4

Everton vs. Chelsea

H2H: W13 D21 L28

Fab: I don’t think many teams will fancy playing Everton currently and certainly not Chelsea as they continue to blow hot and cold. I had expected them to win at Old Trafford in midweek but as it turned out that was pushing it a bit too much. Everton are really compact and everyone is executing their roles clearly so I don’t see why their great escape shouldn’t continue.

Prediction: 1-0

Bobo: Everton are the proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes. They have to forget about the ten point deduction and try and get some wins. They have impressively won the last two and I think they will continue in this fine form against a Chelsea team that can attack but not defend. Everton will likely bully the Blues into submission.

Prediction: 3-1

Fulham vs. West Ham United

H2H: W4 D6 L16

Fab: Fulham are in quite some mood after that 5-0 success over Nottingham but will know that West Ham will pose a sterner test. Indeed, the Hammers are unbeaten in six in all competitions, winning five of those. Personally, this seems like the most evenly matched duo of the fixture list this weekend and considering it is a derby, points might well be shared.

Prediction: 2-2

Bobo: Both teams picked up a vital win before the derby. This should be an interesting game that I think will probably end up in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Luton vs. Manchester City

H2H:

Fab: Manchester City are winless in 4 league games. Can you believe that? How often do you get to hear that said? Indeed it is not yet Christmas, but City have already lost three times in the league! They visit Kenilworth Road and it is not an easy hunting ground – ask Arsenal who had to dig deep till the 97th minute for the winner. Luton did compete against the league leaders and should have gotten something from the game. They will need to show the same fight and determination if they are to do the unthinkable against the flailing champions who themselves have to raise their game in a manner we all know they can. It’s going to be closely fought and City will probably win just because they are City.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: I have to admit that it is odd looking at the PL table and finding Manchester City in fourth. But that is just how it is. Given that two teams above them are facing each other, there is a great chance that they can move up one place with a win against Luton. Luton are a difficult opponent at home but I think Manchester City have got this.

Prediction: 1-4

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Newcastle

H2H: W24 D8 L24

Fab: Spurs are anything but hot as they are now winless in five games despite having score the first goal in all of them. Quite Spursy, don’t you think? Newcastle on their part have a traveling problem. They have only won once on the road this season – in that 8-0 rout of the hapless Sheffield United. A draw would maintain the status quo on both sides’ form, but I think one run is going to be snapped. The Toon just aren’t convincing away and I don’t see that changing.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Spurs have not won in their last five and come up against a Toon side that will be licking its wounds. Injuries are mounting for both teams and making quite a big difference. The Toon do not seem so solid away from home and Spurs can capitalize on this. I think though that it will end in a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW15

Wolves vs. Burnley

H2H: W3 D3 L4

Fab: Burnley got their second win of the season and a clean sheet to boot in their 5-0 hammering of fellow strugglers Sheffield and that should have done them a world of good. Wolves on their part came late to the party at Arsenal, scoring when it was a tad bit too late in their eventual loss. They return to home comforts and against a team they should be beating. The problem? The home side has quite a poor record against the visitors who, believe it or not, haven’t tasted defeat in their last 17 midweek fixtures! Quite intriguing, but I’ll still go with a narrow bounce-back win for the Wolves.

Prediction: 3-2

Bobo: Wolves were quite unlucky to not get a result against Arsenal despite going 2-0 quite early. They are a formidable and well coached unit doing quite well even without their star player, a certain Pedro Neto. Burnley picked up a win and they did so in style. They should try to build on that and get some points. I think Wolves will be too strong for Burnley and will get back to winning ways.

Prediction: 3-1

Luton vs. Arsenal

H2H:

Fab: I guess the major talking point around this clash is that Arsenal have not won at Luton in their last 10 visits to Kenilworth Road! Yes, you read that right and that’s why this is far from being as straightforward a trip as many have imagine. The Gunners will have to overcome that historical barrier if they are to ramp up the pressure on their rivals before they play. Luton will have to be more dogged defensively than they were in their last fixture at Brentford if they are to get something from this match. Arsenal look more assured rather than spectacular so far and should probably be just too good.

Prediction: 0-1

Bobo: An interesting stat has been going round about Arsenal not having beaten Luton in their last six meetings. Luton are by no means an easy team and they will take the game to the Gunners. Arsenal have all the weapons required to win this game and I think they will.

Prediction: 1-3

Brighton vs. Brentford

H2H: W2 D1 L1

Fab: Brighton will feel rather unlucky at the manner of their loss to Chelsea over the weekend, but the good thing is the quick nature of the fixture turnaround. They have drawn their last three home matches and that’s a concern but then again Brentford haven’t been great on the road so maybe that overdue win for the Seagulls is around the corner? The Bees were dominant against Luton and produced a very attack-heavy performance. I doubt they will repeat that as they face one of the best ball-playing sides in the league.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: This is a really interesting match to test what Brighton are made off. They were close to getting at least a point last weekend but came up short. I think they are still a good team that is more than capable of winning this game. Brentford have 3 wins in the last five and will want to keep up the winning. I think this may be a game where the Seagulls get back to winning ways.

Prediction: 3-2

Crystal Palace vs. Bournemouth

H2H: W6 D4 L2

Fab: The slump is deepening for Palace after a decent start to the season and they may well start looking nervously behind their shoulders. Bournemouth will rue failing to hold on to the win against Aston Villa but there’s no time to mull over it. They have to focus on compounding Palace’s home woes. Can they, though? Maybe none of them will be good enough for the win.

Prediction: 1-1

Bobo: The Eagles have been rather out of sorts this season. Meanwhile, the Cherries are on some sort of upward trajectory and know that a win in this game can send them level with Palace. The Cherries will be confident after getting a point against Villa. I think this game be a second draw in a row for both teams.

Prediction: 2-2

Fulham vs. Nottingham Forest

H2H: W2 D0 L0

Fab: Fulham were surprisingly quite daring at Anfield and were it any other ground, they would have won that match. They will need to bring that adventurous nature to this clash at home. Forest may have won on their last visit to West London, albeit at Chelsea, but I doubt they will repeat the trick here.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Fulham came so close to pulling a great upset on the weekend but a lapse in concentration and that was over in a matter of minutes. Forest are on a losing streak and Fulham should take the fact that they can score three against Liverpool and use that to get a crucial win. Forest are on a downward trajectory and I think they may suffer a bit more before things look up.

Prediction: 2-1

Sheffield United vs. Liverpool

H2H: W2 D2 L6

Fab: Chris Wilder is back at the helm of the Blades so could we witness a new manager bounce? Personally, I would hope so but I can’t see it. I think it will take him a lot more training sessions to turn the tide. The Liverpool attack is just way too good and Sheffield will be blown away.

Prediction: 0-2

Bobo: Sheffield are still rooted to the bottom and face a very deadly Liverpool side. They just don’t seem to have the tactical discipline to see a match through and it has been costly. I think Liverpool will take advantage of the confusion here and get all three points.

Prediction: 0-3

Aston Villa vs. Manchester City

H2H: W7 D10 L29

Fab: I know you’re thinking it. So I’m gonna just say it. Villa will win this. They are at home and I know it’s Man City, but Villa are playing at home! The last few matches especially against Chelsea and Tottenham have shown that for all their quality in attack, City are fallible when the game is taken to them and what do you think Unai Emery’s team do best at home? They attack and score a lot. City looked rattled against Spurs and Villa will have sensed that and I reckon they will capitalize.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: What a match this could be! A win for the home team sees them leapfrog the defending champions into third place. This would be great but City will definitely not allow it to happen. Villa have the tools to take advantage of the defensive frailties affecting City now with their counter attacks. It all depends on how Emery opts to approach the game. Somehow, I think Villa can do it.

Prediction: 3-2

Manchester United vs. Chelsea

H2H: W18 D26 L18

Fab: All talk before this game has been around reports of manager Erik ten Hag apparently having lost half the dressing room. We’ll get to see just how accurate those assertions are. Chelsea are still a team trying to find themselves and as a result blowing hot and cold with remarkable regularity. They’ve thrashed Spurs, impressively held Man City, capitulated at Newcastle and managed to see off Brighton in their last four outings. Who knows how they’ll fare at Old Trafford? Frankly I can’t see United galvanized enough for this game and I think it’s one of those that the Blues could bolt off from the start and run away with.

Prediction: 1-3

Bobo: The PL meeting statistics show that this is a balanced match with an equal number of wins for both teams. It feels like the sort of game that will have lots of goals. United are at home and should perhaps perform better. Chelsea do not seem to care where they are. The Red Devils may have their first draw of the season.

Prediction: 2-2

Everton vs. Newcastle United

H2H: W22 D11 L23

Fab: I was wrong about Everton being up for the fight for survival after their ten-point deduction. They went to the City Ground and forced the win. And who’s to bet against them here at home to Newcastle? Not me.

Prediction: 1-0

Bobo: I think Everton are the sort of team that will do anything to overcome the adversity they face at the moment. Newcastle are a good team and quite solid but I think Everton at home will be too stern a test. I am tempted to back Everton for this and I will fall into temptation and do so.

Prediction: 2-1

Tottenham Hotspurs vs. West Ham United

H2H: W26 D11 L17

Fab: Spurs snapped their three-match losing streak with that thrilling draw at champions Man City and will be pumped for this London derby. They have proved to be entertainers but now is the time to get the result to avoid falling further behind the others. The Hammers failed to see off Palace and based on that display, I don’t think they will offer much resistance to Spurs. There should be goals and a home win.

Prediction: 3-2

Bobo: This seems like the sort of match that will be feisty. Tottenham are at home and will probably see this as the match to get them back to winning ways. The Hammers can be a formidable opponent but they seem to be lacking something at the moment. This plays the game into the hands of Spurs who I think will get back to winning.

Prediction: 2-1

Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW 14

Arsenal vs. Wolves

H2H: W12 D3 L3

Fab: The league leaders welcome Wolves to the Emirates in supremely high spirits after that thumping 6-0 win over Lens in midweek and I don’t think this ends any other way apart from an Arsenal win.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: Wolves are probably the most aggrieved team in the EPL due to the referee decisions. They can’t seem to catch a break. As a team, they are really good on the eye and there is a reason they were able to defeat the defending champions. The Wolves will definitely hound the Gunners from start to finish. However, Arsenal are at home and almost have the strongest team back. This will be difficult but I think the Gunners have what it takes to get the win.

Prediction: 2-1

Brentford vs. Luton

H2H:

Fab: Brentford will seek to return to winning ways after their last two tough fixtures against big guns Liverpool and Arsenal which brought nil returns points-wise. Luton may have beaten Palace on their last outing, but this one seems like it will be about the home side getting back to winning ways.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Brentford seem to be on their way to their best selves and this match comes at a good time. I have a bit more confidence in Luton than I did in previous weeks but I think Brentford have got this.

Prediction: 2-0

Burnley vs. Sheffield United

H2H: W1 D1 L2

Fab: If ever there was a fixture for Burnley to win, this is it! Yes, because the only other fixture they’ve won in this season has been against another promoted side, Luton. So yes, I’m backing the Clarets to edge this relegation six pointer.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: The battle of the relegated. These two teams have had so little to offer. Burnley have lost the last five and may be thrilled to face fellow relegation opponents at home. They probably feel that they have a chance to get some three crucial points here. However, Sheffield should know that this is one of the places they can get some away points. Most likely a draw

Prediction: 2-2

Nottingham Forest vs. Everton

H2H: W4 D2 L6

Fab: Actually the fixture I expected Everton to win was their last one against Man United and they were beaten convincingly on home turf. You get a feeling that just maybe their points deduction has kind of deflated the squad a bit too much? Forest rarely lose at home and they are as solid as they come. So, home win then.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Forest will welcome this home game and feel that they can get the three points. At their last match, Everton seemed deflated which is what you would expect after picking up some points then getting docked those points to head back to the relegation zone. That is such a difficult situation to be. If Everton are back to their best, they can pose problems for Forest and somehow I think they will.

Prediction: 1-2

Newcastle United vs. Manchester United

H2H: W8 D16 L32

Fab: Both these sides suffered demoralizing draws in their midweek Champions League fixtures and will look to restore some smiles on their faces on the domestic front. These days a trip to St James’ Park does seem like a visit to the dentist, doesn’t it? And if the match is late on Saturday night? It’s always going to be difficult for the opposition and I think Man United will feel the heat.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: This should be a thrilling match. There is so much to play for. Newcastle see this as an opportunity to get into the top five by the end of the gameweek while United want to keep pace with the top five. I think that Newcastle may just have the quality and edge to win this. United looked great against Everton and questionable in the Champions League match. I think they have some gaps that the Toons can exploit.

Prediction: 3-1

Bournemouth vs. Aston Villa

H2H: W4 D0 L2

Fab: Aston Villa away? It will be fun, there will be goals and it will probably end in a draw. This is so considering Bournemouth have picked up form in the last month, winning 3 of their last 5. It’s going to be a tough match for Villa, that’s for sure.

Prediction: 2-2

Bobo: The Cherries have two wins on the bounce including a crucial win against Newcastle. The team seems to have clicked. High flying Villa will see this as an opportunity to cement their place in the top four. I think this will be a good game of football and the teams will share the spoils.

Prediction: 2-2

Chelsea vs. Brighton

H2H: W6 D4 L2

Fab: The Moises Caicedo/Marc Cucurella derby? Chelsea have been having mixed results in their last few fixtures and it is a wonder what they’ll serve up in this one. Brighton haven’t lost since they were beaten by Man City towards the end of October and should come to the Bridge with enough confidence to get away with a point.

Prediction: 3-3

Bobo: This is a very interesting game. The Blues are inconsistent and its painfully hard to even imagine what they will do. Brighton are experiencing Europe blues it seems, in addition to the injuries the team is facing. The match up will be interesting as both teams have the potential to inflict damage on each other. I expected Brighton will hold their nerve and pick up an important win here.

Prediction: 1-3

Liverpool vs. Fulham

H2H: W19 D6 L7

Fab: Fulham arrested their slump with that controversial win over Wolves on Monday night but a trip to Anfield is probably not what the doctor ordered.

Prediction: 3-0

Bobo: Liverpool are almost back to their best and they are deadly in that state. I think this will be a routine win for the the Reds.

Prediction: 3-1

West Ham United vs. Crystal Palace

H2H: W9 D7 L8

Fab: West Ham come into this London derby in good form, having won 4 on the bounce in all competitions whereas Palace have lost 4 of the last 5. I know it’s a derby and form goes out of the window, but I think it’s going to be really hard for Palace.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: The Hammers have won their last two while the Eagles have just 1 in their last five. I think the Hammers are on a bit of a run here and they will get all the bragging rights in this match.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester City vs. Tottenham

H2H: W17 D7 L28

Fab: This is the big match of the weekend; second on the table against fifth is indeed spicy. Spurs are probably the team that has taken the most points from Pep Guardiola ever since he landed in England, but luckily for him, this is at the Etihad and not in North London. Tottenham are in wretched form, having lost their last three games and really you don’t want to be travelling to City like that. And with their high line, it could get ugly for Spurs here. City to win convincingly to pile the pressure on Arsenal.

Prediction: 4-1

Bobo: The big one to end the match week. City will be looking to get back to winning ways against a Tottenham team that seems out of form and sorts at the moment. Spurs have lost three this season and its been the last three that they have played. I think they have the quality to stop City but not at the moment. Manchester City win? I think so.

Prediction: 3-1

Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW12

Wolves vs. Tottenham Hotspurs

H2H: W6 D3 L9

Fab: Spurs are unbeaten no more and the thing with football is that if winning is a habit, then so can be losing. Especially considering that Ange Postecoglu has just been named manager of the month, weirdly enough, that might not bode well. Wolves’ good run came to a halt at Sheffield, thanks in part to a dodgy refereeing decision, and that just might be enough to fuel the fire in their belly. I think the home side will be really up for this one, given the suspensions and injuries Spurs will carry. Home win is looking alright.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Wolves have been pretty decent and might be sitting a bit higher on the table but for referee decisions. They would be a lot of trouble even for this Tottenham side but they will be without their star, Pedro Neto. Spurs will want to rectify the errors from the last game week to prevent a slide down the table. I still think Wolves are good enough to get at least a point at home.

Prediction: 1-1

Arsenal vs. Burnley

H2H: W11 D4 L1

Fab: After that acrimonious loss at St. James Park, playing hosts to a meek and feeble Burnley is just what the doctor ordered for Arsenal. The unbeaten run may be gone but probably it’s for the best if just to end the odd comparisons with the Invincibles of two decades ago. Can Burnley stop their fast slide towards the Championship? Maybe, but not in this fixture. Looks like Mikel Arteta will get his very first win over the Clarets.

Prediction: 2-0

Bobo: The Gunners need to dust themselves off the previous gameweek’s shambles and focus on this very winnable game. Burnley have lost the last four and Arsenal will make it a fifth.

Prediction: 3-0

Crystal Palace vs. Everton

H2H: W6 D9 L13

Fab: Everton are on the up after a poor start to the season but Palace too have arrested their slump with last weekend’s win over Burnley. I’m not quite expecting goals in this one, but probably the spoils will be shared.

Prediction: 1-1

Bobo: The Eagles have all to do against quite a solid Everton side. Everton have been fairly better than expected. However, I think Palace have the players and ability to do the job here and get the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester United vs. Luton

H2H:

Fab: Tell you what, I have half a mind to think that United will lose this one. I mean, seriously, they could. Luton aren’t that bad an outfit – in fact they look the best of the bunch of promoted sides. What next from Man United? That midweek loss in Copenhagen will definitely hurt. They will have to really pick themselves up and get a grip if they’re to see off Luton. Feels like one of those frustrating afternoons for the Old Trafford faithful only for an unlikely goalscorer to come through eventually with a get-out-of-jail card.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: This may be the sort of opponent the Red Devils need to get some confidence and some momentum. I underestimated Luton in the last gameweek and I certainly think they are a good team and can give the Red Devils some trouble. However, I think United will get the three points here.

Prediction: 2-1

Bournemouth vs. Newcastle

H2H: W2 D4 L4

Fab: On the weekend you’re beating title contenders Arsenal in front of a raucous home crowd, then a few nights later at the grand cauldron that’s the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund you get a smack right on the face. That’s the story of Newcastle within the last week. Teams often struggle after away European trips and I think that will be the case here. The Cherries will pull off a sneaky win.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: The Cherries have to face two well-oiled teams consecutively which must really suck for them. This will be a really difficult game for the home team. Newcastle were gifted a win against the Gunners last week and should have lots of confidence coming into this one. I think this will most likely be a Toon win.

Prediction: 1-4

Aston Villa vs. Fulham

H2H: W12 D11 L7

Fab: So, here’s how things stand. Fulham don’t seem that good (read really blunt in front of goal) and the Villans are back home where they are absolutely rampant. Result? A home win and by quite some margin.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: Villa were dealt a return to reality last weekend and will want to get back to winning ways. Fulham are not entirely a bad side but I think Villa will have the edge here.

Prediction: 2-1

Brighton vs. Sheffield United

H2H: W0 D2 L2

Fab: It’s funny that Brighton have just completed the double over a bona fide European football royalty in Ajax, but haven’t won in the league since September. Oh and Sheffield got their first league win of the season last weekend. So, what do we conclude from that? Probably a draw is a fair result, no?

Prediction: 1-1

Bobo: The Seagulls might be struggling with balancing league and cup duties but they are a good side and I certainly think they have what it takes to beat this Sheffield team that finally got a first win. I think Brighton will pick up their first win in a long time.

Prediction: 3-1

Liverpool vs. Brentford

H2H: W2 D1 L1

Fab: Liverpool suffered defeat in Toulouse on Thursday to remain winless in their last two games. They welcome to Anfield a Brentford side in quite some form having won three on the bounce and looking to make it four. It’s a match that Liverpool might find it hard to get going, and the Bees will no doubt frustrate them, but I think the Reds will just about get it over the line.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Quite an interesting match. Liverpool has the team needed to beat this Brentford team that has won the last three. I think Brentford will provide a great challenge to the Reds and I think this might end up as a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

West Ham United vs. Nottingham Forest

H2H: W5 D3 L2

Fab: It’s about time the Hammers won in the league, no? And Forest don’t really travel well do they? The home side needs the result more and should get the win, even if they haven’t been winning immediately after a European fixture.

Prediction: 3-2

Bobo: The Hammers will need to get back to winning ways in the league. They have three losses in a row and that somehow just does not make sense. Forest picked up a confidence-boosting win against Villa and will have all the confidence as they start this match. I think West Ham will dig deep and find the right tools to win this match.

Prediction: 2-1

Chelsea vs. Manchester City

H2H: W27 D7 L18

Fab: A Chelsea win here could really throw the spanner into the works and who’s to say they can’t? After all they are just from hammering a team that was topping the table – City is yet another such specimen. For City, it seems they are hitting their stride and doing what we all expect them to do every match. This fixture of late has been tight but City seems to always win them so this one could as well follow the same script. There’s a small asterisk though: Pep Guardiola seems to struggle against Mauricio Pochettino’s teams (he has just a 50% win rate) so it’s not a done deal. The thing is Chelsea just don’t have the kind of quality upfront that City has and that might well be the difference.

Prediction: 0-2

Bobo: The Blues are coming of a win against the team at the top and they will have gained confidence from that. City come off a big routine victory for this interesting fixture. I was shocked to see that the last five matches between these two have been four 1-0 results and one 2-1 away win for Chelsea. When one thinks about it, it seems like a match that would have many goals. Despite Chelsea’s win last weekend, I think City are a monster at the moment and will probably get the win here.

Prediction: 1-3

Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW11

Fulham vs. Manchester United

H2H: W3 D6 L23

Fab: Just how deep can the United ship continue to sink? Back to back 3-0 home defeats to City and Newcastle in midweek paint a grim picture and the pressure is absolutely ramping up. Fulham also haven’t had the best of form going into this, but they will be smelling blood and a good performance should be enough for them to grab all the three points, their goalscoring woes notwithstanding. I think they’ll just about continue United’s slide.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: The Cottagers will not know which Red Devils they will be welcoming but they will feel that they can get some points at home. This is the sort of game that the Red Devils could be counted on to win some time back but not at the moment. A tricky one to attempt to call but I’ll go with a Cottagers win.

Prediction: 2-1

Brentford vs. West Ham United

H2H: W4 D4 L0

Fab: Back to back league wins and suddenly the bees are buzzing, just looking for their next customers to sting…and it’s the Hammers. Brentford have a good record in London derbies and sure look like continuing that run, especially against a Hammers side which had midweek exertions in the Carabao Cup. They did win that convincingly (3-1 against Arsenal) but have lost back to back in the league. I’m going with form here and Brentford have it.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: A very interesting match. The home team finally got back to winning ways and have won the last two in a row while the Hammers have been Hammered in the last two. Brentford will come into this with confidence while the Hammers will come into it with hope that they do not lose three on the bounce. I think it may be an interesting draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Burnley vs. Crystal Palace

H2H: W6 D3 L5

Fab: So far it seems like Burnley have been weighed and measured in the Premier League and found heavily wanting. Palace are winless in three since beating Man United at the end of September but should see this game as their shot at redemption. Normally I’d back the Clarets to win such a fixture, but I can’t see how they’ll manage that.

Prediction: 0-2

Bobo: This is the sort of game the Eagles can pick up the three points. Some key injuries are preventing them from playing at their level best but I think they can get an important away win here to help them get back to winning ways.

Prediction: 1-2

Everton vs. Brighton

H2H: W6 D2 L4

Fab: Everton are enjoying a (sort of) purple patch of late, a far cry from their miserable start to the season. Conversely, Brighton are in a rut, winless in their last four league games and they risk the slump deepening further. The Toffees did hammer the Seagulls 5-1 in their last head to head encounter and while they probably won’t replicate that scoreline, I think they have a good shot at the win.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: Everton have been suprisingly quite good in recent weeks. They have picked up some unexpected results and I think they will continue with their good form. The Seagulls seem to have lost their way a bit and I think that the best they can do here is a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Manchester City vs. Bournemouth

H2H: W12 D0 L0

Fab: Man City have (almost) always beaten Bournemouth and I don’t think that’s about to change especially as they seek some momentum in their title chase.

Prediction: 3-0

Bobo: The Blues have not dropped a single point in the matches they have played the Cherries. I do not think they will start now. It is a bit unfortunate that the Cherries get this as the next game after picking up their first win. The defending champions will get the three points.

Prediction: 4-0

Sheffield United vs. Wolves

H2H: W1 D1 L2

Fab: Wolves were unlucky to lose the scintillating Pedro Neto to injury and no doubt their ability to create chances will suffer, but they play probably the worst team in the division so they should still be able to find a way to get the result.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: The Blades are really horrible to watch. They are the opposite of the death by organization offered by teams like Manchester City and Arsenal. They are death by disorganization. It is hard to understand their style of play or if they have any goals (the objective kind and the football kind). I think Wolves can capitalize on their poor form and get some important away points.

Prediction: 0-2

Newcastle United vs. Arsenal

H2H: W11 D11 L34

Fab: This is as good a fixture as a Champions League clash. Newcastle are in red hot form and confirmed it with that win at United which was full of swagger and verve. Arsenal are still unbeaten but will have to be extra cautious given their midweek woes at West Ham. Traditionally this is a fixture the Gunners have dominated and it will be a huge test of their title credentials. It’s one of the games you feel could be decided by a refereeing decision. It will be tight, but Arsenal should have it in them to halt the Toon’s ascent.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: The pick of the week. Newcastle are back to the team that we expected and Arsenal will want to prove that they can stay at the top. It is a tough one for the Gunners away. I think they have enough to secure at least a point and will.

Prediction: 2-2

Nottingham Forest vs. Aston Villa

H2H: W1 D5 L6

Fab: Forest are winless in 6 games while Villa haven’t lost in a similar number of games in all competitions – such contrasting form. Interestingly, despite that poor run, the hosts are yet to lose at home, a stat that could be significant here. I think they have the character to get something from this clash even if just a point.

Prediction: 2-2

Bobo: An interesting test for high flying Villa. Forest have the home advantage and could try press Villa for a point here. However, I think Villa will continue with their fun run and get the win.

Prediction: 1-4

Luton vs. Liverpool

H2H:

Fab: I think Liverpool will just be too strong for Luton, so yeah, a comfortable away win.

Prediction: 1-3

Bobo: Luton are not really the worst team and of the promoted sides, they seem like they have the highest chance of survival. However, they are playing a really good Liverpool team with lots of weapons. I think Liverpool have got this.

Prediction: 0-3

Tottenham vs. Chelsea

H2H: W8 D21 L33

Fab: For some reason, I think Chelsea win will this Mauricio Pochettino derby. Spurs are high flying, unbeaten and top of the league and face a Chelsea side that look vulnerable more often than not. Then again it’s a derby and you just never know. And for a fact Pochettino will want to get one over his former charges, so I’m going with a sneaky Chelsea win.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: I was baffled by the poor record that Spurs have against the Blues but it does make a lot of sense. The league leaders will see this as an opportunity to keep their place at the top while Chelsea will want to find a way to recover from the embarrassment of the previous week. However, I don’t think they will get here. Spurs to pile on the misery to stay top.

Prediction: 3-1

Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW 9

Liverpool vs. Everton

H2H: W27 D25 L10

Fab: The Merseyside Derby is upon us once more, but beyond all the hype you have to wonder if it’s a fixture Everton fans really do look forward to. Their record in it is appalling, more so at Anfield. That said, both teams come into this clash in contrasting form, Liverpool winless in the last two, while Everton have won their last two. Can the same be maintained? Probably not. It’s a chance for the red half of Merseyside to resume normal service and I think they will take it.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: Everton were able to record their first win over Liverpool at Anfield since 1999 in February 2021. That was an outlier result that I do not think they have the ability to achieve here. Liverpool are looking good and I expect that this will be a routine derby win for them.

Prediction: 2-0

Bournemouth vs. Wolves

H2H: W1 D2 L3

Fab: The Cherries can’t buy a win and face their former manager Gary O’Neill who may feel hard done by by the manner in which he was axed from the club. He comes with his Wolves side which seems to have arrested their slump and are unbeaten in their last three league fixtures including that win over the champions Man City. I fully expect them to heap more pressure on Andoni Iraola and extend Bournemouth’s wait for a league win this season.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: Bournemouth need to start getting points somewhere or they face they relegation battle from early on. It is really hard to pinpoint where their problem lies. Wolves have picked up some important points and will be looking for consistency. This should make for an interesting match but I think the Cherries will pick their first points.

Prediction: 2-1

Brentford vs. Burnley

H2H: W1 D0 L1

Fab: Brentford are finding the going rather rough and tough, exemplified by their last fixture against Man United where they lead up until the 93rd minute and at the final whistle they had lost the game. Indeed, an inability hold on to leads has been their Achilles heel so far. Life isn’t any rosier for Burnley on their return to the top flight and they are quite leaky at the back too. It’s going to be a strugglers’ paradise but I reckon the Bees are due some good fortune and will eke out a win.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Brentford have really been out of sorts after the big season they had last season. Burnley are not looking too good with their only win coming against Luton. I think this is a great chance for Burnley to remind themselves of what winning feels like and they probably will.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester City vs. Brighton

H2H: W10 D1 L1

Fab: Pep Guardiola vs Roberto De Zerbi, basically every football hipster/tactico’s dream. So be prepared to be inundated with tactical threads all over social media. Pep thinks Brighton are the best team in the world in terms of building up play from the back, a style that he more than anyone else has made the norm in the Premier League. Can the Seagulls confirm this assertion and win? City have lost twice in succession (they almost never do that) and I don’t think it will be three.

Prediction: 4-2

Bobo: The Blues will have enjoyed the break following two straight losses – a rare occurrence for them. Brighton will also want to recover from a loss and a draw in their last two matches to keep up with the teams at the top. However, I think the stakes are higher for City and they will probably get the win here.

Prediction: 3-1

Newcastle vs. Crystal Palace

H2H: W11 D8 L5

Fab: So, Newcastle have tended of late to score bucketloads, while Palace don’t seem to score that much. The major point of discussion ahead of this match is probably Sandro Tonali’s betting indiscretions but I wouldn’t be betting against the Toon carrying on with their good form here.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: An interesting match between the 8th and 9th team. Newcastle will want to win the match to get into those European spots as early as possible and the Eagles just kind of always soar about. I think the Toons have a greater incentive and more quality and will win this.

Prediction: 3-1

Nottingham Forest vs. Luton

H2H:

Fab: The Tricky Trees haven’t won in a while and this is exactly the fixture to change that unwanted stat. Luton may have gotten that win at Everton at the end of last month but I still struggle to see how they are going to win matches. So yeah, a home win for me.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Forest have the quality they need to get the three points they need against Luton. Luton will want to keep climbing up the table to avoid getting relegated. However, I do not think they have an answer to the threat posed by Forest and it will be a Forest win.

Prediction: 2-0

Chelsea vs. Arsenal

H2H: W20 D17 L25

Fab: Growing up, this was a fixture that only seemed to provide heartache to Chelsea and it would look like we are back to that era. Arsenal have won their last 3 encounters including two at the Bridge and it would be argued, are hot favourites to make it four in a row. The Blues continue to try to strike the right balance with their team selection and indeed are in decent form, but you’ve just got to think that Arsenal, on a high of finally beating title rivals Man City just before the break should get the business done here.

Prediction: 0-1

Bobo: Arsenal have come a long way as a team and a long way in this fixture. From struggling to beat Chelsea at all to winning the last three at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will have hated to see the international break just as it seemed they were getting some momentum. They have a good team and good numbers and this will be a tough one for Arsenal. However, I think Arsenal have the quality to take the three points here and keep up the challenge at the top.

Prediction: 1-3

Sheffield United vs. Manchester United

H2H: W2 D1 L7

Fab: Probably not many Man United supporters will be retaining Busta Rhymes’ hit song Arab Money in their playlist after the much coveted Qatar ownership gave up on their quest. Luckily for United they face easily the worst team in the league and they should huff and puff to get the win over the line.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: Sheffield United are rock bottom and they need to start picking up points from somewhere. However, this is not the game they will do that. The Red Devils are not at their best but surely they should be able to comfortably beat this Sheffield side? I think so.

Prediction: 1-3

Aston Villa vs. West Ham United

H2H: W13 D21 L14

Fab: Both teams are having more than a decent season in the top flight and so this is a clash worth watching. I’m expecting lots of goals as usual in a Villa game, but they’ll need to be a lot tighter at the back as they have a particularly poor record against the Hammers, winless in their last ten. West Ham will look to that with delight knowing full well that it’s traditionally a kind fixture for them. A draw, anyone?

Prediction: 2-2

Bobo: An interesting match. Both teams are looking to ensure they get into those European spots. Emery’s side have been looking brilliant in attack and the Hammers have been a solid unit. This is a really hard one to call but I think the Midlands team will edge it.

Prediction: 3-2

Tottenham Hotspurs vs. Fulham

H2H: W18 D7 L7

Fab: Tottenham will probably win this one, because why not?

Prediction: 2-0

Bobo: Tottenham lie at the top of the table and most of it is deserved. Most. Fulham lie 12th and their wins have come against teams at the very end of the table. Spurs have a really good record against their London rivals and I think they will keep it going and stay at the top.

Prediction: 2-1

Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW8

Luton vs. Tottenham Hotspur

H2H:

Fab: Luton followed up their maiden win in the Premier League at Everton over the weekend with a morale-sapping loss at home to fellow promoted side, Burnley. Next challenge? A tough assignment at home against high flying second placed Spurs, who may consider themselves lucky to have come out of their encounter with Liverpool with all the points after that farcical refereeing decision nullified a perfectly legit Liverpool goal. Nonetheless, Angeball will seek to kick on and add more points in the bag.

Prediction: 1-3

Bobo: Luton did well to get their first win of the season last weekend and should have got some momentum going with their rescheduled match at home against Burnley but they missed this big opportunity. Spurs were gifted the match by the officials at the last match but take nothing away from the quality this team possesses. I think it will be another win for Spurs and a sustained stay near the top.

Prediction: 1-3

Burnley vs. Chelsea

H2H: W1 D4 L11

Fab: Both sides arrive on the back of much needed wins; Burnley getting their first league win of the season at Luton and Chelsea only their second of the season at Fulham. So safe to say, spirits in both camps have been lifted a bit. Traditionally the Clarets don’t do well at home to the Blues. Indeed, Chelsea have never lost at Turf Moor in the league. Normally you’d back the visitors to come and pick routine points, but probably not this current crop. There should be plenty of fight and probably a draw should suffice.

Prediction: 1-1

Bobo: Both teams got much needed wins and should be looking to stay in motion. This is a great match for both as they look for some consistency. I think Burnley have what it takes to make Chelsea pay but it will likely be a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Everton vs. Bournemouth

H2H: W5 D2 L5

Fab: So, Everton can’t win at home and Bournemouth can’t win at all. How fascinating! The Toffees have played 4 times at home this season and lost all of them and this could easily be the fifth. The only reprieve is that the Cherries have to win a single game in the top flight this campaign and don’t seem like winning one any soon. Since both teams can’t lose, and I don’t fancy a draw, I’ll go with an Everton win.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Everton seemed like they were on their way to picking up some wins but they could not sustain this. The Cherries are one of two teams without a Premier League win and will feel that they can get the three points here. And they probably will.

Prediction: 1-2

Fulham vs. Sheffield United

H2H: W2 D1 L1

Fab: Fulham will be reeling from that loss at home to Chelsea and should want to put things right against the rather hapless Blades who are yet to win and seem to be finding life back in the big time tougher than they probably imagined. I can’t see them getting any reprieve at Craven Cottage either, even if Fulham are having problems scoring goals.

Prediction: 2-0

Bobo: Fulham will welcome Sheffield as they look to get back to winning ways. They have the quality it takes to win this match and I think they will. Sheffield will continue to anchor the table for a while.

Prediction: 3-1

Manchester United vs. Brentford

H2H: W3 D4 L1

Fab: Can United catch a break? They’re in quite a rut and might as well register a third consecutive home loss in a week (or 8 days). The loss to Galatasaray in Europe must have really hurt in the manner they threw away leads twice and even had a man sent off, not forgetting the fact that it could have been worse had Mauro Icardi converted his penalty for the visitors. Thankfully though, their next opponents Brentford are also going through a torrid time with their only win in open play all the way back in August. The occasion will no doubt be clouded by the demise of Lady Cathy Ferguson, wife of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson and you never know how the team reacts to such grief. I think an upset is heavily on the cards.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: Phew! Two teams that are performing below expectations meet again. United have a series of injuries that are making it hard to string some good results while Brentford are still without their star man Ivan Toney. It should be an interesting match of who wants it more but this won’t be enough to separate the two. Another draw I think.

Prediction: 2-2

Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest

H2H: W0 D3 L3

Fab: Palace did extremely well to get that win at Old Trafford and are looking good for the win here on home turf. Forest did well to get a point at home to Brentford as they had to play through with ten men. They really are a tough nut to crack, but will probably be cracked here.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: A proper mid-table fixture with two teams doing what is expected of them. The Eagles will be soaring high after an important victory last weekend while Forest will be proud of their performances so far and their resilience in a game. I think Palace have the quality to finally pick up pick up the three points.

Prediction: 2-1

Brighton vs. Liverpool

H2H: W2 D3 L7

Fab: This should be an interesting watch. Brighton have continued to entertain, following up their rather shocking 6-1 mauling at Villa Park with a gutsy come from behind 2-2 draw with Marseille at the Velodrome in the Europa League. Juergen Klopp may not get the replay with Spurs that he craves after that inexplicable ‘human error’ but he’ll need to put that disappointment behind and more importantly ensure his side finishes the game with 11 men. Indeed, Liverpool’s discipline has come into sharp focus already having received 4 red cards already. They did lose their 17-match unbeaten run at Spurs and the thing about such a run ending is that you suddenly can be a bit more brittle.

Prediction: 3-2

Bobo: The Seagulls saw red in their last match and will want to avoid the same this time. Liverpool also saw red but in a different way and will look to build from a mostly positive performance. Two teams with a lot to play for before the break. I think Brighton may just have the edge here.

Prediction: 2-1

West Ham United vs. Newcastle

H2H: W14 D13 L23

Fab: How do you top probably one of your greatest nights in history? Well, by travelling to London and doing the business against West Ham, no? That’s Newcastle’s task after acing that PSG test so magnificently. West Ham are doing their business quietly, efficiently and nicely, going to places like Freiburg and winning. This clash of two high fliers will probably boil down to who comes back down to earth and humbles themselves to take care of the less glamorous stuff. After such a euphoric night for Newcastle, I have to go with the Hammers continuing their good run.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: This is a really interesting match and the Hammers will want to prove they can compete against the big boys. Newcastle will want to ensure they get all the three points against a team that seems like it may be a rival for European spots. I think the Hammers will do what they have been doing and get the win.

Prediction: 3-2

Wolverhampton vs. Aston Villa

H2H: W6 D5 L5

Fab: Well, Wolves only went and dispatched champions Man City, no big deal. But really, it was. That scalp just might be what they needed to turn around their season. Villa annihilated Brighton and come into this Midlands derby on the cusp of top 4 in the log, and even if they haven’t done well in this fixture of late, they will be looking at the table and seeing what can be achieved. Problem with Villa is that they can be such a yo-yo team and we’ll probably witness this inconsistency yet again. Wolves for the win then.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Being the first team to make Manchester City drop points. Massive for Wolves and it should really boost their confidence. Aston Villa also had a massive result of their own. So it is two teams on a high going against each other. Villa seem like they may just about have the edge over this oddly interesting Wolves team.

Prediction: 1-3

Arsenal vs. Manchester City

H2H: W23 D10 L19

Fab: A clash of title contenders and a chance for either of them to lay down a marker for the season. Arsenal come into this on the back of their first loss of the season, away at Lens while City dropped their first league points of the season at Wolves. In short, both sides’ cloaks of invincibility have been torn. The Gunners have lost their last 12 league clashes with City, and really that’s some wretched stuff. Starboy Bukayo Saka is touch and go for this match, still struggling with injury and well, that should be good news to City. Will he make it? It will be a referendum on Arsenal’s ability to challenge City all the way and thus the pressure and onus will be very much on them. Can they get that elusive win? I think so, yes.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: A fantastic match before the international break. Arteta is still looking for his first win against his mentor and former employers while the Blues are looking to bounce back from a rare defeat. It will be an interesting battle that will likely have shared spoils.

Prediction: 1-1

Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW7

Aston Villa vs. Brighton

H2H: W5 D2 L1

Fab: I think it’s safe to say we should expect lots of goals in this one. Indeed, the visitors are the highest scorers in the division, and Villa’s games have become synonymous with goals, well except their last one at the Bridge last weekend. But who will win though? Villa somehow seems to have a recent good record against Brighton and that should give them the confidence they need.

Prediction: 3-2

Bobo: What a way to start the weekend! This is a great match with two teams that play some really exciting football. The two teams are also in great form having won 4 of their last 5. Aston Villa have done the double over Brighton in the last two seasons and I think that their home advantage may just come into play here. It should be an exciting match with a Villa win.

Prediction: 4-2

Bournemouth vs. Arsenal

H2H: W1 D2 L9

Fab: The Gunners come into this encounter with several injury concerns cutting across their starting XI and that should give the Cherries some hope of getting something out of this game. The problem for the home side is that Arsenal seem to travel really well this season. Indeed, they’ve won both of their trips 1-0 and registered the same scoreline in the midweek Carabao Cup tie at Brentford. Who’s to say it won’t end the same way at the Vitality? “One nil to the Arsenal!”

Prediction: 0-1

Bobo: Gunners should be feeling disappointed that they do not have the bragging rights after the NLD last week. The Cherries offer a chance for redemption for a relatively weakened Arsenal side due to some niggling injuries. They are looking for their first win of the season and this fixture against Arsenal provides them with a chance to get that. However, I think Arsenal have the quality to get the three points and keep up with the teams at the top.

Prediction: 1-3

Everton vs. Luton

H2H:

Fab: Everton seems to have turned around the corner with that impressive scalp of Brentford last weekend and should make it back to back wins for the first time in such a long time. Luton are still winless and you wonder where and how that elusive win is going to come about. The Toffees’ poor home form aside, I can’t see them throwing away what seems like a gimme fixture.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: Everton got an important win in the league and another in the League Cup to give them a much needed boost. They are an object in motion and I expect that they will stay this way. I think they will be too much for Luton and they will get the win that keeps them climbing up the table. Luton should really have won their last match and are still in search of their first win. The search will go on until maybe their next match.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace

H2H: W19 D6 L3

Fab: It’s a second instalment of this clash in just four days following United’s dominant display in the Carabao Cup in midweek and they will be hoping to pick up from where they left off. Palace were abysmal in that match and must vastly improve to get anything out of this one. The hosts are plagued by injuries in their backline, more so at left back, but should still have enough in the tank to dispatch the Eagles.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: United also seem to be turning things around though they were really lucky in their last league match. After a loss to the same team, the Eagles will be feeling that they can do better and go back to winning ways. However, I think that the Red Devils will get all the three points at home but it will most likely be close.

Prediction: 2-1

Newcastle United vs. Burnley

H2H: W6 D4 L2

Fab: What a week Newcastle is having. They plundered 8 goals past Sheffield then followed it up with a significant League Cup win over the mighty Man City and surely they are on a roll. The same can’t be said of Burnley as they are still winless in the league. Though to be fair they did manage an impressive victory over Salford in the Cup in midweek. That aside, I fancy the Magpies to get the win here as they prepare for the visit of Kylian Mbappe and co in the Champions League.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: Eight goals in their last match and facing a newly-promoted team. Burnley will have to be wary when facing Newcastle but I think the Toons will be too good for them.

Prediction: 4-1

West Ham United vs. Sheffield United

H2H: W3 D2 L3

Fab: The Hammers have had a great start to the season but were stopped in their tracks by Liverpool last weekend. They will be seeking to get back on track with a win over a Sheffield side still reeling from a chastening horror show at home against Newcastle. I don’t think the tide will have turned soon enough for the Blades to avoid another (probably big) defeat.

Prediction: 4-1

Bobo: The Hammers have been doing quite alright with their two losses of the season coming against Liverpool and Manchester City. They will be looking to get back to winning ways against a likely deflated unit. Sheffield will have to give a better performance to avoid the embarrassment of last week. They will still be hammered though.

Prediction: 3-0

Wolverhampton vs. Manchester City

H2H: W4 D2 L12

Fab: Man City are 6 from 6 and will be looking to make it a perfect seven in the league this season and whether Wolves can stop that from happening remains to be seen. The home side should find encouragement in City’s midweek cup defeat as a pointer that indeed, every perfection is flawed. Then again the manner in which Wolves blew a 2-0 lead at Ipswich in the cup pretty much suggests that the possibility of an upset here is highly improbable.

Prediction: 1-3

Bobo: The Wolves have a myriad of problems they need to address. However, I do not think any addressing can prevent a loss against the league leaders who have not dropped a single point so far.

Prediction: 1-4

Tottenham vs. Liverpool

H2H: W14 D17 L31

Fab: Match of the weekend? Absolutely. Both sides have started the season quite brilliantly, and it must be said, rather against expectation. Spurs were good value for their draw in the North London derby and probably will feel they should have gone on to win. Liverpool dispatched West Ham with aplomb and followed it up with another fine win against Leicester in the cup and will no doubt be relishing this trip. I think there will be goals, but just can’t quite pick a winner here.

Prediction: 2-2

Bobo: An interesting way to end the first day of the weekend’s football. As I have said before, Tottenham are going about their business quietly and collecting vital points. Both teams remain unbeaten and Liverpool have been looking really good of late. It should be an interesting fixture where both teams will keep their unbeaten streak.

Prediction: 2-2

Nottingham Forest vs. Brentford

H2H: W0 D1 L1

Fab: Both teams are going through somewhat a lean patch and in fact for the visitors it is starker as their last win in open play was over a month ago at Fulham. Forest have not won in two games, so I guess that makes their form relatively the better of the two. For some reason I think they will share the points.

Prediction: 2-2

Bobo: Two teams in desperate need for a win. Forest have been quite impressive while Brentford have been a bit underwhelming. I think this is a great chance for Forest to pick up three points at home.

Prediction: 2-1

Fulham vs. Chelsea

H2H: W2 D11 L19

Fab: I just know Chelsea are not going to win this derby. A combination of extremely poor form and the fact that they are away at Craven Cottage on a Monday night is enough for that conclusion.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Chelsea’s problems are with finishing their chances. Having picked up a vital win in midweek, they may be feeling more confident. Fulham are performing as would be expected and one would expect them to get at least a point at home.

Prediction: 1-1

Luton vs. Burnley

H2H: W0 D1 L1

Fab: This is a difficult game to predict given that both sides will have played a match before this fixture which is a rearranged one from earlier on in the season. I think I’ll just fancy Burnley to edge it as it’s against an opponent that their performances of late would be enough to beat.

Prediction: 1-3

Bobo: If it was possible for two teams to lose a match, then this would be it. Both teams are looking way out of their depth going into this match. I think Luton can take advantage of the home ground and be the first of the two to get their first win.

Prediction: 2-1

Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW5

Wolverhampton vs. Liverpool

H2H: W4 D3 L15

Fab: Wolves have been struggling this season, only one win in four, and will no doubt have been relieved the international break came when it did. But it’s back to business and they have to start getting some positive results on the board. Only problem is that they entertain a high-flying Liverpool side who are yet to taste defeat this season. Word of caution for the visitors though – they failed to win in all of their travels last season when it was an early kick off. That said, any chance of a Wolves upset hinges on them keeping a clean sheet, and I don’t think they will.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: A really interesting match between a team that is still not convincing (ah, but this could describe both teams) so I will just stop there. Liverpool have all the firepower they need to assault this Wolves side. This Wolves side seems quite stable and has the potential to hold on for a point. However, I think the Reds might just be too good for them.

Prediction: 0-2

Aston Villa vs. Crystal Palace

H2H: W9 D7 L8

Fab: As I have highlighted before, you just never know what to expect with this current Villa side. They blow hot and cold a little bit too much. Then again, they are at home against a Palace side that doesn’t travel well so barring a miracle, I think the hosts will see out this one.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: The pick of the week in my opinion. Two really exciting teams this season. This should make for an interesting match. Villa are looking dangerous and the Eagles have their moments. Both teams are playing some good and exciting football and there is no reason this should not be a good game. At the moment, it seems that Villa have the better team and the higher chance of winning.

Prediction: 3-1

Fulham vs. Luton

H2H: W2 D2 L0

Fab: Fulham were on the end of a 5-1 pasting at Man City last time out, but probably it’s something a side like theirs will have accepted – an occasional thrashing at the hands of a vastly superior side. In that vein, they should prove to be an equally superior side to Luton, who are yet to put points on the board so far. All indications point to a professional job by the Cottagers with minimal fuss.

Prediction: 3-0

Bobo: Fulham are another exciting team to watch this season after their brilliant run last season. They will want to pick up the points against a still-settling Luton team. I expect that they will.

Prediction: 3-1

Manchester United vs. Brighton

H2H: W9 D1 L5

Fab: United may have acquired the unflattering moniker ‘Statement FC’ following the number of statements the club has had to release concerning disciplinary issues regarding their players, but they’ll have to dole out an even bigger statement if they are to beat Brighton. The home side will be missing both Antony and Jadon Sancho and it will be interesting to see how they compensate in attack. The Seagulls come into this clash after that brilliant demolition of Newcastle and confidence is surely sky high. United lost in dramatic fashion at Arsenal and another loss here will put them in severe danger of drifting further behind the top hitters so early in the season.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: A difficult test for the Red Devils. The Seagulls have shown what they are capable of but the Hammers also showed how to stop them. It is difficult to predict which Manchester United will turn up. However, all the Seagulls have to do is be at their best and focus on defending the transition play from the Devils. Brighton may just come away with another win because they seem just a bit better organized at the moment.

Prediction: 1-3

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Sheffield United

H2H: W5 D4 L4

Fab: Ange Postecoglu is fresh from winning the August Manager of the Month award so to say he’s enjoying the start to life in England is an understatement. And what is more, I don’t see that changing any soon with the visit of the Blades. The good times keep rolling for the Spurs.

Prediction: 2-0

Bobo: I think that Spurs will do really well this season. They have a manager who is just focused on his football and a team with players who want to come out of the Harry Kane shadow. Sheffield have shown some moments of brilliance but they will need more than that to come away with anything here. I think Spurs will be too strong for them.

Prediction: 3-0

West Ham United vs. Manchester City

H2H: W10 D9 L33

Fab: Fancy City to drop their first points of the season? I strongly do, yeah. The Hammers have started their season well and made shrewd acquisitions. City did steamroll Fulham in the last fixture and just maybe are beginning to get into their devastating form. One thing though, the London Stadium can be a difficult place to go and this looks like one of those occasions. I’ll go for an entertaining high scoring draw.

Prediction: 3-3

Bobo: The Hammers have definitely had a good start to the season. They are still unbeaten and they can boast that impressive win against the high-flying and at the time, seemingly unstoppable Brighton. They will feel that they can achieve a lot even against the best team in England, and probably globally. I think this may be the end of City’s perfect winning run. The Hammers can get a point at home.

Prediction: 1-1

Newcastle United vs. Brentford

H2H: W3 D1 L1

Fab: At the start of the season, I’d have comfortably proclaimed a Newcastle win in this one, but ever since their dazzling opening day win at home to Villa, everything has gone south so fast. Granted, the opposition the Magpies have faced in those three losses have been of a high quality. Brentford themselves are no pushovers – indeed, they are still unbeaten this season. This is the start of a massive week for the Toon as on Tuesday they face AC Milan at the grand old cauldron of the San Siro in the Champions League. They will therefore want to go in to that with some confidence. Brentford will make it difficult, but for some reason Newcastle will just about grind out the win.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: The Toon have all the tools to still do really well this season. However, things just seem to not be working for them. The impression from Brentford is that they are a team who will not give up under any circumstance. This makes for a very interesting match. I think that the teams are highly likely to share the spoils here.

Prediction: 2-2

Bournemouth vs. Chelsea

H2H: W4 D1 L10

Fab: We thought Chelsea had finally turned the corner when they beat Luton but how wide off the mark that thinking was as soon enough Nottingham Forest brought them back to earth. That should give the Cherries every reason to believe that they can get their first league win of the season, but they will have to be at their ruthless best – Chelsea are still a good team, after all.

Prediction: 1-0

Bobo: The Cherries are exciting though inconsistent and Chelsea are definitely consistent in their point-dropping though this is surprising when you look at the numbers. Could the break have given the Chelsea management the time needed to address their issues? I think not and I think it will be a good chance for Bournemouth to pick up some three points at home.

Prediction: 2-1

Everton vs. Arsenal

H2H: W12 D14 L38

Fab: It used to be Stoke that were Arsenal’s bogey team. Now Everton have firmly grasped that mantle. It is indeed 6 years since the Gunners last registered a win at Goodison Park and that doesn’t make for good reading. The Toffees are winless this season and have just acquired new ownership, the 777 Partners (new owner bounce, anyone?). Everything points to Everton winning like they always do in this fixture and that’s why I’m going with Arsenal breaking their duck.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: What is the best team to play when you desperately need a win or if you are a debutant and want a goal or if you are a striker on a goal drought? The answer to all those is Arsenal. The Gunners have a history of performing poorly against teams on a bad run. However, I think the Arsenal this season is a different team and they should get the business done here. I’ll boldly predict three points though I am highly likely to regret this decision.

Prediction: 1-3

Nottingham Forest vs. Burnley

H2H: W2 D2 L6

Fab: Life back in the big time is proving rather tumultuous for Burnley and it doesn’t help that their next fixture is at of all places, the City Ground on a Monday night. And of course, Forest are having a decent season so the Clarets’ search for redemption will continue.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Forest have been so impressive this season. A real surprise for me. They have the ability to score goals and this is working well for them. Burnley are yet to settle in the premier league. I think Forest will take advantage of this and get some important three points.

Prediction: 3-1

Fab and Bobo’s Picks – MW4

Luton vs. West Ham United

H2H:

Fab: It’s becoming more and more difficult to see Luton getting a win in the league. I mean, they’re not that bad, but also there isn’t much quality in their squad either. The Hammers on the other hand are flying high and confounding critics like myself who predicted a tough start for them. A couple of 3-1 wins over Chelsea and Brighton have thrust them right to the upper echelons of the log and a win here will have them topping the table. And I think they’ll do just that.

Prediction: 1-3

Bobo: Luton need to start getting the wins and this home game presents them with that chance. They play a Hammers team that will feel invincible having won against Chelsea and Brighton in successive match days. Luton will be the underdogs here and I think they will surprise West Ham and break that momentum.

Prediction: 2-1

Sheffield United vs. Everton

H2H: W4 D2 L5

Fab: This is straight up a relegation six pointer with both teams unable to register any point so far. At least Sheffield’s losses have been somewhat closer to suggest that they’re inching closer to that maiden win. Everton may have won away at Doncaster in their midweek League Cup tie, but haven’t as yet scored a goal in the league and I’m not entirely convinced they will survive this trip to the Blades.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Sheffield did really well against the defending champions and will feel that they should have got at least a point there. Both teams need to win and this is the perfect match for that. Everton can’t seem to score goals nor defend too well. I think this match gives the promoted unit a chance to get the three points.

Prediction: 2-0

Brentford vs. Bournemouth

H2H: W5 D1 L2

Fab: Brentford are unbeaten in the league so far and looking quite good at it. Bournemouth on the other hand are yet to win and will be looking to stop the rot. Probably only one winner in this and surely it’s the home side.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: This seems to be an interesting fixture with two exciting sides. Brentford drew their last match while the Cherries lost. Both teams will want to get back to winning ways. I expect this to be a tight and exciting match with Brentford just about winning it.

Prediction: 3-2

Burnley vs. Tottenham Hotspur

H2H: W4 D4 L13

Fab: I think I’ve massively underrated Spurs so far. On the contrary Angeball seems to be working like a charm! Burnley are yet to carry their red hot Championship form into the Premier League and just maybe there’s a little bit of concern creeping in. This will be their third straight match at home in the league and they’ve lost their last two.Maybe they could try nick a point here, but it seems quite unlikely.

Prediction: 1-3

Bobo: Burnley are still adapting to the Premier League and though they look like they will come around, it has not been easy. Spurs are going about their business well and this match presents them another chance to quietly pick up some important three points as they work to getting back to top four. I think the Spurs team will be a bit too good for Burnley.

Prediction: 1-3

Chelsea vs. Nottingham Forest

H2H: W8 D5 L3

Fab: Chelsea finally won a match in the league after going on a run of six winless matches stretching back three months ago. Just what the doctor ordered, you’d imagine. They will be hoping that winning now becomes a habit. Forest were rather unlucky not to get something from their trip to Old Trafford last weekend but should be encouraged by that display which had them 2-0 up within the first 5 minutes of the game. They will trouble the Blues but just for the fact this game is at Stamford Bridge, they’ll come up short.

Prediction: 2-1

Bobo: Chelsea finally got their win and this may be the push they need to get going. Forest should have got the three points after taking an early lead but they somehow fumbled this and will look to rectify. Forest can score the goals but they need the concentration in defense. This one may end up being a draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Manchester City vs. Fulham

H2H: W20 D10 L4

Fab: The thing with City is that they are just way too good for majority of the rest of the league that they don’t have to hit top form yet or even get out of second gear for most of the matches and they still win. Maybe it’s time they fully came to the party? Fulham were very clinical against Arsenal and managed to salvage a point despite going down to ten men late on. They followed it up by claiming the impressive scalp of Tottenham in the League Cup and suddenly this doesn’t look like a foregone conclusion of a City win. It will be interesting to see if the Cottagers’ exertions will have an effect on a match where they will do more chasing.

Prediction: 4-1

Bobo: Manchester City looked a bit fallible against Sheffield but they know how to get the business done. They know how to get the three points even when things are hard. Their quality means that I may likely predict that they’ll win about 32 times this season. Fulham were quite fortunate to come away with a point last week but they showed their excellent defensive organization. I do not think this will be enough to slow down City.

Prediction: 3-1

Brighton vs. Newcastle United

H2H: W6 D6 L3

Fab: Newcastle’s demolition of Aston Villa on opening weekend now looks like quite a distant memory given how their past two games have panned out. They will be kicking themselves for failing to put Liverpool to the sword and somehow contriving to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory even with a numerical advantage. Brighton themselves were brought down to earth by West Ham and will have to kickstart another run. They are well capable of convincingly beating the Magpies but this feels like it will be a tightly contested scrap with neither side in the mood to cede an inch.

Prediction: 2-2

Bobo: This should be an interesting match. It is definitely my pick of the week for what it means to two teams that were humbled after an explosive start to the season. Brighton’s possession and Newcastle’s one-man advantage did not matter over their last opponents. Both teams have the quality to score and though a bit shaky in defense, are quite solid. I expect that the affair may be quite cagey though I don’t expect Brighton to deviate from their style. I think the teams may end up sharing the spoils.

Prediction: 1-1

Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton

H2H: W8 D2 L5

Fab: Palace just concluded the big signing of Arsenal’s defensive stalwart, Rob Holding on deadline day and that just might be the difference needed for the win here. I’m actually being serious. Wolves after all have just sold probably their best player Matheus Nunes to Man City – a decision that’s pretty baffling given their struggles this season. A win for the home side, methinks.

Prediction: 2-0

Bobo: Another interesting fixture with two sides that play some interesting football. The Eagles know how to score and can win more matches while Wolves will need to really step it up to get anything here. I expect it to still be a Palace win and three points at home but they will need to work hard for it.

Prediction: 2-1

Liverpool vs. Aston Villa

H2H: W33 D11 L15

Fab: Credit to Liverpool for not knowing they were beaten and continually digging in to eventually smash and grab the three points at Newcastle – truly phenomenal stuff. They will have to be at their brilliant best and erase the individual errors against Villa or they will be punished. The Villans are on quite some good form and will go into this match with no fear. Tough to call other than for the fact that both teams will score but I’m going to be bold and back the away side.

Prediction: 1-2

Bobo: Another difficult match for Liverpool but they showed their quality with that win over Newcastle. Aston Villa are also a quality team and the signings they have made look good, especially Diaby. Both teams will be feeling good after their weekend wins and will want the high to continue. I think the points will be shared here.

Prediction: 2-2

Arsenal vs. Manchester United

H2H: W19 D20 L32

Fab: United doesn’t seem to be able to figure out Arsenal away these days and probably this encounter could follow the same script. Arsenal let slip their 100% record at home against Fulham and this will be a cause for concern. The Gunners can’t keep clean sheets at home while United aren’t the best of travelers. Mikel Arteta has been accused of tinkering too much with a formula that has been proven to work while he insists it’s all about making his charges unpredictable. The Red Devils have been forced late into the transfer market to solve their defensive and injury woes with deals for Sergio Reguilon and Sofyan Amrabat but will they be ready to feature in this one? Arsenal may be battling with a rather new weight of expectation, but I think they’ll have more than enough to win this.

Prediction: 3-1

Bobo: Probably the most anticipated match of the weekend for most people. Fans of both teams have complains (as always) and expect their team to win by at least five goals. The Gunners should really have done better against Fulham and the Red Devils were quite lucky against Forest. The Gunners are at home and should make this advantage count.

Prediction: 3-1
