Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom: National Quarter Finals- Bukhungu.March 23, 2018
The Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega is the place to be. With the National Finals of the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Youth Tournament bringing the best youth teams in the country, Kakamega, and the larger Western Region has been abuzz with the youth teams, their fans and locals enjoying the spectacular entertainment on offer at one of the most iconic and monumental grounds in Kenya.
Yesterday, 22 March saw the kick off of the Finals with quarterfinal knockouts, sweetened by the alluring cash bounty of Ksh 250 000, progression to the semis for another Ksh 500 000 and ultimately the Finals, where Ksh 1 000 000 and a trip to the International training camp with Victor Wanyama in London to play for.
The girls’ quarterfinals saw Tar Tar Women FC from Rift run-away 3:2 winners against Waa Girls from Coast as Archbishop Njenga from Western win 7:1 against Beijing Raiders, the Champions from the Capital. Nyanza region’s Plateau Queens would have Ngakaa Talent Academy from Eastern against the ropes and to the glee of fans, dispatch the Eastern queens 7:1. Central Finalists Limuru Starlets didn’t have a quarterfinal fixture but took the opportunity to prepare for their Semi Final tie against Plateau Queens.
Tar Tar Women FC, therefore, faces Archbishop Njenga in the Semifinals as Limuru Startlets play Plateau Queens.
“We’ve had a good victory today. The matches were tough but the girls were physically fit and focused. We never underestimated our opponent and that has always been our secret to success. We will up our game for better results tomorrow and look forward to winning the semis,” said George Omondi, Coach Plateau Queens.
The boys’ quarterfinals saw Mukumu Boys from Western beat Shimba Hills from Coast 3:1 as Gor Mahia Youth from Nairobi beat Al Hayat from North Eastern 4:0. Kapenguria Heroes from West Pokot also booked their semis slot after trouncing 4:1 Eastern’s Mwingi Juniors. Nyanza region’s Ombek Red Devils drew 3:3 against Euronuts from Central in regulation time and eventually won the post-match penalties 5:3.
Mukumu Boys will face Gor Mahia Youth FC as Kapenguria Heroes take on Ombek Red Devils in the semis set for Saturday 24 March.
“Our win today is as a result hard work and team spirit. The game tomorrow will not be easy at all but we look forward to good results. Our focus is to win the finals and be the champions,” said Fredrick Krop, striker – Kapenguria Heroes Boys.
