Euronuts Proceed to the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom National Finals for the Second Year in a Row

Euronuts were able to defend their Central region champion title again this year after thrashing Irigiro boys from Maragua one goal to nil yesterday and finished the job in the finals by winning against Lufa Graduates scoring two goals to one. Limuru starlets were not so successful this year as their regional title went to a more angrier Barcelona Ladies who might have watched videos of Messi in training on repeat haha.

The Semi Finals

In the girls’ category, Limuru Starlets beat JYSA from Thika one goal to nil while Barcelona Ladies from Laikipia thrashed Kirinyaga Dybamo 4:1 to book a a place in the finals with Limuru Starlets. Jane Njeri who scored all the four goals for Barcelona Ladies expressed her desire to win in the region finals and book a place in the final.

In the boy’s semi finals, Euronuts won against Irigiro boys from Maragua by one goals to nil, booking a ticket to the region finals. Laikipia’s Lufa Graduates also overcame Nyeri’s Tetu Boys beating them two goals to nil.


The Region Finals

Unlike last year’s finals that were played under the rain, the weather this year was a bit friendly to the central region semi-finalists, with each looking to book a place in the National finals that will be held in Meru. In the boy’s finals, Euronuts successfully defended their title to become Central Region champions second year in a row. They played against Lufa Graduates scoring 2:1 with goals from Lual Mengistu giving them an early lead in the 6th minute, setting pace for ‘nuts’. George Ndungu netted the second goal at 35th minute to seal the win for the Euronuts. Lufa Graduates were however not going to go down without a fight with Lorere Daniel scoring a goal at 65th minute.

In the girls’ finals, Limuru Starlets were not able to defend their title after meeting a much stronger Barcelona Ladies who won 2-1 with both goals coming from Jane Njeri to clinch the top spot in the girls’ category. In addition to the 4 goals she scored yesterday, Jane Njeri was crowned the top scorer of the tournament with 6 goals in two matches to her name.

“I am very delighted for what we have achieved as a team. Scoring six goals couldn’t have been possible without team work. We will keep up our training routines as we prepare for the national finals. This is a very important moment for us,” said Jane Njeri, Top scorer from Barcelona Ladies.

Barcelona and Euronuts received a cash reward of KES 200,000 each and will now represent Central region in the national finals scheduled for June 2019 at Kinoru Stadium, Meru County.


The two teams join Mombasa’s Shimanzi youth and Changamwe ladies, Kajiado’s Al Ahly and Kitale Queens from Rift Valley, Bishop Njenga Girls and Lugari Blue Saints from Western, Manyatta Boys and Ndhiwa Queens from Nyanza as well as Super Solico and St Mary’s Ndovea from Eastern for the national finals set for Meru where KES 1M is at stake.


The competition now moves to Garissa for the North Eastern region final on 24th and 25th April 2019 then Nairobi region on 27th and 28th of April as the race to La Liga heats up. Come and enjoy the untapped talent in Garissa!
