Corner Watch

So we agreed that betting on corners is what is in vogue, yes? Solid! Well, here are a few games to look at as we seek to make you money this weekend. Though it would be nice if I got a cut from your loot or a pint or something. Let’s get on with it.

Aston Villa v Chelsea

The result may be an obvious Chelsea win – such is the disaster that the Villains have become that even a far from vintage Chelsea should have the smoothest of rides. Even though the home side have been in woeful form, their games more often than not produce corners aplenty. In fact in each of their last 3 fixtures there have been 10+ corners. Chelsea will obviously be doing the most attacking and should easily pick up 6 corners at least. All in all, 10 corners from the game won’t be too much a stretch.

Pick: Over 9.5

Bournemouth v Manchester City

From what I have seen, the odds in the 1X2 market are more sumptuous, but easy, don’t be in a hurry to throw away your money. City are off form and that points to the fact that they may not create too much chances from open play. It probably means that we will see their full backs and wingers bomb up and down the touchline and that’s a great breeding ground for corners. Bournemouth traditionally get around 4 corners, which they will do.

Pick: Over 8.5

West Ham United v Crystal Palace

This is a derby and you know, there are no better games for corners than derbies. I don’t think there’s much to be said about this clash. Both sides’ matches produce lots of corners and with a lot for both to play for; West Ham dreaming of the Champions League and Palace looking to avoid being drawn into the relegation fight, we are guaranteed attacking intent alright.

Pick: Over 10.5

Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur

The Liverpool lads (those not involved in the international break) were taken to a bonding trip out in the sun in Tenerife and should be revitalized for this clash. They had better be. At home, Liverpool do get a considerable number of corners and Spurs are chasing the title and therefore will attack. Could be a glut of such set pieces .

Pick: Over 9.5

Sevilla v Real Sociedad

The Andalucians have been imperious at home and that won’t change against a wobbly Sociedad that’s really low on confidence. Expect the home side to attack hard. It helps too that Sevilla’s corners have been as reliable as it gets. They will win the match, win on corners and most like post 7+ corners. Easiest pick of the weekend, this one.

Pick: Sevilla win (corners); Sevilla 7+

Carpi v Sassuolo

This is a tricky pick, probably the one I have the least confidence in. For a while Sassuolo had been bailing me out with their impressive corners return but it seems the well has been running dry of late. Carpi are more a yo-yo team in terms of corners. On one matchday their game could post 17 corners then 5 in the next. Either way, my gut says 9 corners shouldn’t such a hassle.

Pick: Over 8.5

Juventus v Empoli

Now this is the only fixture I looked at with unders in mind and not the customary overs. It’s almost obvious that Juve will win this match, but such has been their dominance that other teams don’t really get the spaces to attack. Games involving the Bianconeri are notoriously corner-deficient. I’m expecting something like 6 corners but to be safe, say 9. Only place this bet if you’re absolutely confident with what I think.

Pick: Under 9.5

Lazio v AS Roma

The Rome Derby is here. To say that it will be feisty is an understatement. Roma are trying to tighten their grip on the final Champions League spot and so should be going for the jugular. Lazio should chip in with say 4 corners to add to the ones Roma will have garnered. Of course that’s all hypothetical, but at least 9 could happen.

Pick: Over 8.5

Bologna v Hellas Verona

These two are some of the Serie A sides I have relied on to fill my corner count. I don’t think I want to stop and I won’t. It helps that Verona are rock bottom and fighting for dear life.

Pick: Over 9.5

Also, Inter-Torino (Over 8.5) and Atalanta-AC Milan (Over 8.5) are a worth a punt.

Good luck and all the best!
