Berlin FC beat Al-Ansar 2 goals to nil to retain the North Eastern region title that they won last year.
In a final very similar to last seasons’ where the two rivals met in yet another star studded match, Berlin FC managed to beat their rivals and prove who is the best in the region. Today’s match was the final match in Chapa Dimba na Safaricom’s North Eastern edition that began in September with 40 teams. Berlin’s coach, ‘Ole Gunner Solskjaer’ proved to be the better Ole Gunner, leaving his mate in the premier league with a thing or two to learn about winning.
Khalid Yusuf’s free kick went over the bar on the 67th minute but Noor Osman converted a corner kick almost immediately, opening the scoresheet for Berlin FC on the 68th minute. Berlin FC’s Abdalla Maro scored the winning goal on the 88th minute to give the team a 2-nil win against rivals, Al-Ansar. Maro who is also known locally as ‘Young Messi’ emerged as the top scorer of the tournament and got an individual prize of 30,000 and a trophy.
This was a very important win for Berlin FC whose dream is to produce more players in the all star team that will travel to Spain in 2020. Issa Minhaj and Khalid Yusuf got a once in a lifetime opportunity last year to represent Berlin FC in the all star Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom team that traveled to Spain where they trained with the best La Liga coaches. Al-Ansar players got their Spanish tour dream crashed today and will have to change their tactics and field a better team next season.
The region’s winner, Berlin FC were awarded KES 200,000 and will compete at the national finals set for June 2020. The losing finalists, Al-Ansar took home KES 100,000.
The tournament now moves to Mombasa, where the Coast regional finals will be held on 7th and 8th December at Bomu Stadium. The Coast regional finals will also be accompanied by coaching clinics by La Liga coaches where they will be trained on how to build their skills to international standards.
At the end of all the regional finals, an all-Star team comprising of 16 girls and 16 boys will be selected to attend a 10-day training camp in Spain during which they will play friendlies against top Spanish La Liga Football Academies. The all-star players will then re-join their teams for preparation for the national finals to be played in Mombasa where the winning teams will be awarded KES 1 million and crowned National Champions.
