Dagoretti Mixed have won the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Nairobi Region Title. Dagoretti beat Hakati Sportiff 4-3 in post-match penalties after the game finished 0-0 in normal time.
Dagoretti Mixed had the better chances but they were unable to capitalize on their dominance. “It was a tough game. Both teams put their best foot forward but neither managed to score, which showed that both teams were well prepared,” Peter Achoka, Dagoretti Mixed team captain remarked.
Jackson Jumba, Otieno Juma and Lewis Bandi converted their penalties for Hakati Sportiff. Peter Wambua drove his penalty wide, failing to capitalize on the advantage that golden glove winner goalkeeper Elvis Ochieng had given his team after he saved Dagoretti’s second penalty taken by John Baraza.
Victor Hagai, Peter Achoka, Alex Munga all scored their penalties for Dagoretti Mixed. Goalkeeper Joseph Karari then saved Glenn Magolo’s penalty giving Ghai Mwongela the chance to seal the victory and win his team Kshs. 200,000/=. Mwongela drilled the last penalty low into the bottom corner. Hakati Sportiff walks home with Kshs. 100,000/=
In the Girl’s draw, Beijing Raiders won the 2020 Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Nairobi Region Title after putting 6 past Acakoro Ladies.
Golden boot winner and the tournament’s most valuable player, Sato Drailer Salome scored 4 times and Omondi Fasila Adhiambo added a brace to complete the win. Sato also finished the competition as top scorer.
Coach Pauline Mango of Acakoro was proud of her team for making it 3 finals in a row. “I’m so happy with the girls. They are young and hungry. The oldest is 17 years old and they have a bright future ahead.” said Pauline.
Mark Okwiri, Beijing Raiders head coach was delighted with her team after their flawless performance. Beijing Raiders will represent Nairobi Region in the National Finals taking place on 6th and 7th June 2020 at Bomu Stadium, Mombasa. He said, “I’m looking forward to the National Championships and we’ll go into the competition full of confidence.”
Beijing Raiders win Kshs 200,000/= and Acakoro Girls secured Kshs. 100,000/= for finishing second.
The 2 teams join Tumaini School from Makueni, Isiolo Starlets from Isiolo, North Eastern’s Berlin FC from Garissa, Coast region’s Yanga FC from Malindi, Kwale Ladies, Falling Waters from Laikipia and Ulinzi Youth from Nanyuki who have already secured a ticket to the national finals where KES 1,000,000 is up for grabs.
The tournament now heads to Kericho for the Rift valley regional finals set for 7th and 8th March 2020 at the Green stadium.
An all-Star team comprising of 32 players, both boys and girls, will be selected from the 8 regional finals to attend a 10-day training camp in Spain during which they will play friendlies against top Spanish La Liga Football Academies.
