Fab and Fridah’s Picks – MW4

Fab and Fridah’s Picks – MW4

Manchester United v Manchester City

Last Five Meetings: W2 D1 L2

Fabian Says: Oh, how we’ve waited for this coming together! The fact that this is essentially a top of the table clash is just a mere footnote in the grand scheme of things. This is United v City. The league’s two highest spenders facing off. And more importantly, Jose v Pep. I don’t want to say much, apart from the fact that it’s a pity Sergio Aguero misses out through suspension. That said, Pep holds a vastly superior record over Mou and I think that’s set to continue.

Predicts: 1-2

Fridah Says: The much awaited derby is finally here, though I think a longer wait would have been best for everyone. Manchester United hold the record in this one in terms of history with 71 over their neighbors 49 with 51 draws. It feels like it is more of Mourinho v Pep where the latter has an excellent record. It will be difficult for Pep without Aguero who has a good record in this match. However, I think the tension in this game could lead to a draw.

Predicts: 1-1

Arsenal v Southampton

Last Five Meetings: W1 D1 L3

Fabian Says: The Gunners are looking good, having registered their first win of the season at Watford before the break and having beefed up their ranks with the near-deadline acquisition of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez. They should walk this one, and probably will.

Predicts: 3-0

Fridah Says: Arsenal have made the Saints their bogey team of late. However, there is some positivity at the Emirates this time and a better team with more depth. I think the Saints will have to do a lot to keep Arsenal from winning this.

Predicts: 3-1

Bournemouth v West Bromwich Albion

Last Five Meetings: W2 D1 L2

Fabian Says: The Cherries are still winless but obviously one man will hog all the headlines in this meeting; Jack Wilshere, following his loan move from Arsenal. The hosts will hope he adds the much needed creativity especially considering how defensively organized their opponents can be. I think the wait ends today.

Predicts: 3-1

Fridah Says: The Cherries really need to get out of their slow start. They have made some decent signings of late and I think that they could really give this one a go. Unfortunately, this are the sort of teams that the Tony Pulis men excel at keeping out. I still think that the Cherries can get a win here though.

Predicts: 2-1

Burnley v Hull City

Last Five Meetings: W3 L0 D2

Fabian Says: This one eerily sounds like a Championship clash, but of course times have changed and both sides can now boast of top flight status. Both sides have been impressive but were given a dose of reality last time out by Chelsea and Man United respectively. They will both fight hard, with the knowledge that this is a fixture they should be winning.

Predicts: 2-2

Fridah Says: This has been quite a one sided fixture in recent history. There have been no draws in the last 16 meetings between this two with Burnley winning 11. I reckon it is time for that draw. The two teams have had a pretty impressive start to the season and it’ll be hard to separate the two.

Predicts: 1-1

Middlesbrough v Crystal Palace

Last Five Meetings: W2 D1 L2

Fabian Says: New loan signing Loic Remy suffered an injury even before debut, just to show how wretched the Eagles’ start of the season has been. Simply, they cannot catch a break. And no, today isn’t when they catch one. Boro will duly dispatch them and continue their impressive return to life in the big time.

Predicts: 2-1

Fridah Says: Palace have a long way to go before they can consistently start getting points. I think that their rather poor start to the season will continue. Middlesbrough are a tough team to break and I don’t think that Palace can do this.

Predicts: 2-0

Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur

Last Five Meetings: W2 D1 L2

Fabian Says: About time the Potters grabbed three points and got off the basement of the league? Looks that way, looks that way. They have a certain Wilfried Bony who probably has a point to prove to his paymasters at Man City who have loaned him out.

Predicts: 2-1

Fridah Says: This is very likely to be a cagey affair. The Spurs are very successful at Stoke and have won there more than any other premier league side. Despite this, they are not looking their best and Stoke could take advantage of this. New man Bony could make the difference.

Predicts: 2-1

West Ham United v Watford

Last Five Meetings: W2 D1 L2

Fabian Says: The Hammers will be hoping that they are now more at home at their new home as they welcome the Hornets. For Watford, this could be a very difficult season if they don’t start getting wins on board soon. There’s a welcome return for Dimitri Payet and that should tilt the tie a bit to the home side’s favour.

Predicts: 3-1

Fridah Says: Walter Mazzari will be keen to go back to winning ways. The Hammers are a tough opponent but Watford can do it. West Ham have started rather poorly and they will also be keen to get back on top. This is a very open game that could go either way. I think it will be a small margin win for the Hammers.

Predicts: 1-0

Liverpool v Leicester City

Last Five Meetings: W2 D2 L1

Fabian Says: It’s funny that the defending champions are approaching this game with the hope of upsetting the team with the leakiest defence in the league, but that’s what it is. Leicester have been stuttering, a far cry from what they were last season, whereas Liverpool go into their first home fixture of the season hoping to keep the drama to a minimum. How this one goes is anyone’s guess.

Predicts: 3-2

Fridah Says: Liverpool are facing their favorite type of opponent-a rather big team. It is expected that they should do well. They were the only other team aside from Arsenal to beat Leicester last season and I think they will still manage to get points from them.

Predicts: 2-2

Swansea City v Chelsea

Last Five Meetings: W1 D1 L3

Fabian Says: Swansea may finally see Borja Baston turn out in their white, but will that be enough to stop a visibly reinvigorated Chelsea? Probably not, if the form of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa is anything to go by.

Predicts: 1-2

Fridah Says: Not much to say about this fixture. With Chelsea looking reinvigorated and Swansea not looking too good, Chelsea should be able to continue with their good start.

Predicts: 1-3

Sunderland v Everton

Last Five Meetings: W2 D1 L2

Fabian Says: David Moyes welcomes back his old side to the Stadium of Light but there won’t be any attention given to sentiment here. Sunderland need to start winning, while for Everton, this is a fixture they are salivating for, to further entrench their decent start to the season. Sounds like a draw to me though.

Predicts: 1-1

Fridah Says: This is an interesting game with Moyes coming up against his former employers. I think Moyes has the edge in this one and will get all the three points. Everton haven’t settled well yet and they miss many chances. With more luck, Sunderland should win this.

Predicts: 2-0

Here’s how MW3 panned out before the international break:
