After a very successful first season that ended in March this year, Safaricom #ChapaDimba is back for it’s second season. This year, the youth tournament went one better by partnering with one of the World’s greatest football leagues, La Liga. The agreement will see an All-Star team selected from the tournament travel to Spain to train and
play in top-level football matches.

The tournament, which kicks off in October, was launched today in Nairobi’s Woodly Grounds, Kibera in a ceremony that was full of pomp and color. The deadline for registration for the second season of #ChapaDimba is September 30th. Teams can register through

#ChapaDimba involves girls and boys teams and it’s focus is on nurturing young football talent across the country aged between 16 to 20 years. It aims to develop the grass root football in the eight regions: Coast, Nairobi, Central, North Eastern, Nyanza, Western, Rift Valley, and Eastern, areas where grassroots football has been neglected for years. The first season saw the Kenya Premier League and the National Under-20 scouts secure top talents from the tournament.

#ChapaDimba Na Safaricom
Kapenguria Heroes won Last season’s #ChapaDimba Na Safaricom tournament.

Today, the reigning champions, Plateau Queens and Kapenguria Heroes both played the Nairobi Champions from last season, Beijing Raiders and Gor Mahia Fc respectively during the launch. La Liga’s Head of Global Partnerships and Marketing, Gregory Bolle was ecstatic while acknowledging the partnership with Safaricom. “If the talent on show today is anything to go by, then LaLiga certified coaches will be in for a tough time selecting the All-Star team that will travel to Spain”. He noted.

Teams that reach the semi-finals of the tournament will each receive KES 250,000 while those that proceed to the finals will bag KES 500,000 each. The winners of this year’s tournament (both Boys and Girl’s competition) will walk away with KES 1 million each.

There are various individual prizes to be won during the tournament as well. After the surprise victory of Kapenguria Heroes last season, i’s over to you Gor Mahia Youth. We can’t wait to see what the young talent in the country has to offer in this second season of #ChapaDimba.
